Shopping for clear aligners can feel confusing fast. Invisalign, Angel Aligners, ClearCorrect, and a rotating cast of mail-order brands all promise a straighter smile, so how do you actually compare them? Here is the honest orthodontist’s take: the brand matters far less than most ads suggest, and the doctor directing your treatment matters far more. Let me walk through the main systems, what sets them apart, and what really drives your result.

First, a quick clarification. “Invisalign” is not a category, it is a brand, and the best-known one. The category is clear aligners, and several companies make them. In our offices we use Angel Aligners as our system of choice, and we offer Invisalign as well.

The clear aligner landscape

All clear aligners work the same basic way: a series of custom, nearly invisible trays that move your teeth a little at a time. The differences between reputable brands come down to the material, the planning software, the range of cases they handle, and cost, and honestly, those differences are smaller than the marketing implies. Where you see a real gap is between systems that require an in-person orthodontist and the mail-order kits that skip that step.

Invisalign

Invisalign is the household name, and for good reason: it has been around the longest, has a huge case library, and handles a wide range of problems with features like attachments that help move teeth precisely. It is a strong, proven system. The tradeoff is cost, since the brand premium is real, and as with any aligner the result still depends on the doctor planning it and on you wearing the trays.

Angel Aligners (our system of choice)

Angel Aligners is the system we reach for in most cases. We get excellent, predictable results with it, patients find the trays comfortable, and it is often a better value for families than the best-known name. It handles the same broad range of cases we see day to day, and because we plan and supervise every step, the outcome holds up. When we recommend clear aligners, this is usually what we mean.

ClearCorrect

ClearCorrect is another established, doctor-directed system, owned by a major dental company. It is a solid option that competes closely with the others on quality and often on price. Like Invisalign and Angel Aligners, it belongs to the category that matters: aligners designed and monitored by an orthodontist, not mailed to your door.

What happened to Byte and the mail-order kits

You may remember Byte, a direct-to-consumer aligner company. Byte paused its U.S. sales in 2024 amid regulatory concerns, and its story is a useful cautionary tale. Mail-order and at-home aligners advertise low prices, but they skip the exams, x-rays, and ongoing supervision that keep tooth movement safe. Problems they miss, from root position to gum health, can cost far more to fix than the amount you saved. We do not offer or recommend DIY aligners.

What really matters: the doctor, not the brand

Here is the point I want you to leave with. Among reputable, doctor-directed systems, the brand on the box is a minor factor. What determines whether your teeth end up straight, stable, and healthy is the diagnosis, the treatment plan, and the supervision behind them. A skilled orthodontist gets great results with Angel Aligners, Invisalign, or ClearCorrect. A great brand cannot rescue a poorly planned case. So choose your orthodontist first, and let them recommend the system.
