Crossbite and Underbite
Expander, Braces and Early Treatment (Phase I)
8 cases at Elate Orthodontics
8 underbite cases treated at our Frisco and The Colony offices: 6 with braces, 3 with expander and 2 with early treatment (phase i).
Most underbites aren't simply a big lower jaw. Often the upper jaw didn't grow wide enough or far enough forward.
That's why timing matters so much with this one. In a growing child, an expander and early treatment can help the upper jaw catch up. Once growth is done, the choices are correcting it with braces or aligners when the bite allows, or orthodontics combined with jaw surgery when the jaws themselves are the problem. An underbite is worth an early look, even if treatment doesn't start right away.
