18 cases at Elate Orthodontics

Open Bite Before and After Photos

18 open bite cases treated at our Frisco and The Colony offices: 9 with clear aligners, 8 with braces and 3 with expander.

An open bite means the back teeth meet and the front teeth don't. Bite into a sandwich and the front teeth never actually cut through it.

Habits like thumb sucking, and where the tongue rests when you swallow, often play a part. That's why closing an open bite and keeping it closed are two separate jobs, and why retainer wear matters more with this bite than with most. Clear aligners handle a lot of open bites well, since the plastic over the back teeth works a little like a bite block. Braces are the better tool for others. When the jaws themselves are the cause, surgery becomes part of the conversation.
